A World Wide Online Community United by Music
The new website, which launched simultaneously with the release of the new Black Eyed Peas album "Monkey Business", is setup as a community platform. "We are very satisfied with the launch of the new site", quoted Arno Drost, Creative Director at Brothers in art. "We welcomed 30,000 members in the first month, and most of them continue to visit the site on a daily basis, so we are very happy to see our concept working so well."
Mobile Video to Web
During their European tour in December 2005, The Black Eyed Peas were the first band in the world to have their own web based video diary recorded with 3G (3rd generation) mobile videophones.
The band members used their 3G videophones to make video calls to their own community website www.blackeyedpeas.com, so that they were able to take their fans from around the world behind the scenes of their European tour. The content was offered to fans free of charge.
"It's amazing what technology can do these days." says lead singer Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. This allows us to get closer to all the fans worldwide. This is dope".
The mobile technology, in conjunction with the community website, created an unparalleled experience for the fans who virtually joined the Peas during every day of the tour. "Hearing a packed venue shouting 'Hello!' to you and joining the Peas in the club after the show is not something you experience every day." explains Arno Drost, Creative Director at Brothers in art.
It is no wonder that the anticipation for the 3G Mobile Video campaign was high. Thanks to the website, the fans were able to access the footage as well as share the experience directly with other fans. Although the web is often perceived as a cold and impersonal medium, this campaign brough fans closer the Black Eyed Peas than ever before.
